Staying Cool with a Metal Roof
Are you intrigued with the idea of replacing your existing roof with a standing-seam metal roof? It should last a lot longer than the shingle alternatives, and it would be compatible with photovoltaic panels should you decide to add them in the future.
You may also like metal roofing — for its durability, recyclability, and ease of removal if the need arises. But can a metal roof save energy? Will that light-colored asphalt roofing material perform similarly, with or without ventilation?
Indeed there is. A products directory maintained by the Cool Roof Rating Council lists solar reflectivity and thermal emissivity values for hundreds of brands of roofing. The difference in energy performance is due to more than just the color of the roofing. The good thing about metal roofs is that it can help you save you a lot of money on your heating and air conditioning bills. During the summer, a metal roof can help cool your house by efficiently reflecting sunlight and reducing the amount of heat transferred inside the house. On the other hand, during winter, the underside of the roof reflects the heat inside the house back, making the house warmer.

A metal roof is definitely more advantageous than a shingle roof. Aside from those advantages you’ve mention here, a metal roof can also grant you peace of mind in extremely bad weather because it has interlocking panels for maximum wind resistance.

Metal roofing is quite compatible for installation of solar panels, and aside from that, the material alone comes in handy because it can keep your house cool, making it energy efficient. This is also a good choice if you want to go for a stylish exterior look, because this material plays well with any color and architectural design.
